Privacy
This site runs on one small server. There is no advertising network on it, no third-party analytics, and nothing is sold to anybody.
What is recorded when you download a book
Each download writes one row to a database on that server:
- the date and time,
- which book, and whether you took the EPUB or the PDF,
- your IP address,
- your browser's user-agent string and the page you arrived from,
- a random first-party cookie value, so four downloads by one person are not counted as four different readers,
- and an email address only if you typed one into the optional field.
That is how I know whether anybody is reading — which book gets finished, which format people want, whether a post somewhere sent anyone over. Nothing more.
What is not recorded
No account is created, no reading position is tracked, no pixel follows you off this site, and there is nothing embedded here from Google, Meta or anyone else. The fonts are served from this server, not a font CDN.
Email addresses
If you volunteer one, it is used for one thing: a short email when there is a new book. It is not shared, rented or sold. Reply to any of them, or write to author@veramaddox.com, and you are off the list the same day.
Donations
Payments are handled entirely by Stripe. Card numbers never reach this server. What is stored here is the amount, the currency, the date, Stripe's reference for the payment, and the email address you gave Stripe for the receipt.
Cookies
Two, both first-party. One random identifier so repeat downloads can be told apart from separate readers, and — if you are me — a session cookie for the admin page. No advertising or tracking cookies of any kind.
Your data
Ask and I will tell you what is in there against your email or IP, and delete it. author@veramaddox.com. Logs older than two years are cleared out anyway.
